Welcome to the pristine indoor & outdoor Sand Courts at DaKine!
DaKine Volleyball runs more beach volleyball events & tournaments than any other organization in the PNW. Our goal is to offer well organized, fun, volleyball tournaments for players of all levels and ages to grow the volleyball community and connect communities from around the region. Our tournaments are open to ALL volleyball players- you do not have to be a DaKine club member to participate.
DaKine is proud to partner with AVP AMERICA, one of the largest grassroots outdoor volleyball organizations in the US. All participants are required to have an AVP America membership to participate in DaKine Beach Tournaments. Currently, AVP America is comprised of over 180+ organizations and over 45,000 players. The goal of AVP America is to foster cooperation among beach & grass volleyball promoters throughout the US to grow the sport. Visit AVP America to learn more and register for a membership.
For DaKine’s adult beach partner tournaments we use morning pool play to seed all teams into a modified double elimination tournament bracket (our usual format, unless otherwise noted). AVP points are also taken into consideration for seeding pools. A modified double elimination tournament allows a team to lose one match once the bracket starts, and still work their way back to the cross over (semi-finals) and play into the championship match. To keep the tournament running and on-time, we have the participating teams ref games, so please take a moment to review the rules if you need a refresher; scoreboards will be provided. Coed beach tournaments are played on a men’s height net.
The super fun King, Queen of the Beach Tournaments are a great opportunity to get a lot of play in a few hours and make new friends. No partner needed to register, sign up as an individual and play each game with a different partner. Format may be one match or one game to 21 points for each pairing match up, depending on the size of the event and time frame. Player with the most wins and points at the end of the allotted time period, will be crowned King or Queen of the Beach and earn a prize!
DaKine Beach Volleyball Club is committed to bringing top tier junior competitions to the Northwest. Junior beach tournament formats may vary based on organization and if the event is a qualifier for a National Championship. DaKine Beach Volleyball Club runs qualifiers for AVP America, AAU and P1440, in addition to our BVCA Club Challenges. Girls Juniors events are played on a women’s height net, and boys events on a men’s height net.
Descriptions of Divisions
Novice / Beginner is for beginner tournament participants with limited tournament and playing experience. Both partners would be new to volleyball. Players’ skills would be inconsistent with regard to passing, setting, hitting, serving. Fun division for giving it a try and getting better.
B/BB is for beginner, intermediate.- players with some volleyball experience, but newer to beach volleyball. Alternatively, players with a few years of playing experience, but limited tournament experience. Maybe one player in the partnership has been playing for a little longer, and is a little more consistent in skills, but their partner is much more inconsistent. This is a great division for friends who want to introduce new players, friends, family, significant others to tournament play. Players will have more consistency with passing and serving, still learning setting, hitting and blocking. This division is very fun & social.
A level players are advanced intermediate, with more consistency in all skills. You’ll see more blocking at this level of play. Generally, A players are playing fairly regularly and have several years of playing experience. Still considered intermediate because most players continue to play with a variety of partners, so tournament finishes can vary greatly depending on partnerships. This division is competitive and you should be comfortable with the official (AVP) rules to participate.
AA players are advanced players, with many years of playing and tournament experience. Consistent and proficient in all skills, including blocking. Players usually have more consistent partnerships (maybe 2-4 different tournament partners) and have more consistent top finishes. Players are well versed in the official rules and application of the rules. Many players in the region that play in “Open” level events locally, would be considered AA players in Southern California and other beach volleyball hubs across the country.
This is the highest level of beach competition and many of these athletes are considered professionals, playing for cash prizes, with personal or team sponsorships. These players are highly consistent and proficient in all skills, including hand setting and jump serving. At this level, partnerships are very consistent (maybe 1-2 tournament partners). These athletes train regularly, sometimes with a coach.
“Highly recommended whether you are just getting started in the sand or looking to take your game to the next level!”
“Pretty awesome what you (DaKine) is doing for the sport. Excited to see what the future has in store for young athletes willing to compete in a brand new NCAA sanctioned event! Keep growing the game right!”
